School News

12 December 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

As we head towards the end of term with our Christmas events, we have been reviewing our Covid risk assessment constantly to ensure we do what is best for your children and the wider school community. Despite the measures we have put in place to mitigate risk by limiting audience numbers to 120 and keeping ventilation to a maximum, we have made the difficult decision this morning that parents will not be able to watch the performances ‘live’ this week. We are so sorry and know you and your children will be very disappointed.

We have made this difficult decision in light of the fact that we have an increase in staff testing positive and being contacted by track and trace to get PCRs (an indicator that Covid is in our wider community), Surrey Heath has one of the highest Covid infections rate in the country at the moment and alongside the Government announcement about the rapid spread of the new Omicron variant, we cannot say with confidence that our risk assessment measures are sufficient enough to allow a gathering of 120 people in our school hall to watch a performance for 40 minutes without putting parents at risk.

We appreciate this will be disappointing for parents and children but we have a responsibility to help keep pupils, families and staff safe. We also want to ensure we do as much as we can to ensure families can be together over Christmas instead of needing to isolate.

The children will still have an opportunity to perform their shows, which will be recorded and sent out to parents later this week.

The majority of Surrey Heath schools made this difficult decision earlier in the month but we wanted to have every opportunity to allow the performances to continue if at all possible and sensible - sorry for the short notice.

Thank you for your support and understanding particularly to our Reception parents who were coming to watch their performance this afternoon. To ensure everyone gets this message please can you pass it on via your contacts and usual social media routes.

Kind Regards

Mr J Hills

Executive Headteacher
