Year 1

In Year 1 the following topics and skills are taught:

 

Becoming familiar with the Computer Suite  Children learn how to log onto/shut down a computer and how a computer works e.g. with a mouse and keyboard.

 

Painter program  Children learn how to create a picture in paint and use the various effects e.g. spray can, paintbrush and colouring pencils.

 

Word processing  Children learn mouse control and simple typing skills. The children also use Millipedia to research topics covered in Mathematics, Literacy and Foundation subjects safely.

 

Data Handling  Children learn how to use ICT to represent information graphically e.g. pictograms, to enter data correctly, use icons and to answer simple questions on the data shown in their pictograms.

 

iSafe  The children are introduced to the concept of being safe online, helps children understand the risks associated with sharing personal information online and how to make informed choices.

 

iProgram  The children are introduced to algorithms and simple programming in the context of physical and virtual toys. It develops their understanding that computers are controlled by sequences of instructions and that computers need more precise instructions than humans do.
